Hip Hop 360 is made possible by the WITS School of Arts. This project showcases two VR films created by WITS students from the TV & Film and Digital Arts department's.

Hip Hop 360 drops you the viewer into the middle of two hip hop videos located in and around Braamfontein, Johannesburg, home to South Africa’s largest community of students. Whether it is the wheeling and dealing of ‘Keys’ or the broken heart story of ‘Let Me Go’ you’ll be enticed by the thumping bass of these 360 music videos.

KEY$:

Music by: "KEY$ by Reece VDH and ADHDeen (Artists)

This VR experience is a joyride for the visitor. The artists of the song are the drivers of the journey and their friends are there for the ride. The visitor is a ghost within the experience until the very end, when their eyes are shut by the antagonist of the narrative. The tension in the beginning contrasts the rest of the car ride and allows the visitor to engage in a way that does not interfere with characters’ drive."

Recce and Dean go on joyride with their friends. During their joyride, they deal drugs and get caught by the authorities. The visitor in the experience is a ghost till the last second of the film.

Hip Hop 360

The exciting project called 360 Hip Hop, which has been made possible by the WITS School of Arts departments of Digital Arts and Film & Television. 360 Hip Hop showcases two remarkable virtual reality (VR) films created by WITS students specifically using VR technology. The films were designed under the theme of “music as the narrator.” 360 Flow embraces the concept of “being there” by immersing the audience in the films, allowing them to actively participate rather than simply being passive viewers. With the use of VR technology, viewers can engage with the art form and experience a whole new level of storytelling.
